Changes to Your Electric Bill Are Coming

Minnesota Power successfully refrained from any increases in customer rates for 14 years, until 2009 when we requested and the MPUC granted a rate increase. This new rate, which added about $6 per month to the average residential customer’s electric bill, went into effect in the fall of 2009.

At that time, we told the MPUC we would be filing additional rate increase requests because of ongoing system investments, and now that time has come. If the rate increase that we have presented to the MPUC is approved, it would mean the average residential customer using 755 kWh per month would see an increase of about $13 on each bill. However, that dollar amount could vary for a number of reasons. The final cost can be influenced by everything from customer usage to the current cost of fuel to make power.

This website is intended to give you a wealth of information about this rate request—from details on upgrades to our pollution control systems to how you can conserve energy in your home. We also invite you to attend one of the upcoming public hearings. For a complete schedule, click here.
